Biography

Christian Bernard is a multi-instrumentalist and composer originally from Quebec City, living in Montral since 2004. An adept of spontaneous creativity, he uses a method that lets him tap into the unconscious, steering clear of always relying on inspiration which is, by its nature, pretty elusive.
After dropping the poetic album Black Lotus in the fall of 2024, nominated at the GAMIQ 2025 in the Classical Album category, the artist is back with Traverser l’orage, his second solo piano album that delicately explores the storm, shock, confusion, and sadness felt in the face of grief. Across thirteen tracks that are both simple and sophisticated, Christian Bernard bares himself completely, giving us a glimpse into his personal world. Still guided by melancholy and nostalgia, he offers us a comforting and soothing album, somewhere between classical piano and the current wave of neoclassical piano.
The artist first studied saxophone and percussion as a teenager, and his professional journey started as the lead singer with Quebec City band Nucleair Jet. Since then,, the artist has been involved in a variety of projects and collaborations, both at home and abroad. He co-wrote and co-produced the piece “Ceviche” with Max Graham, an internationally renowned British-Canadian DJ and music producer. The song was released under Armada Music label and the result is a perfect blend of electronic music and acoustic instrument where Christian played and recorded exotic instruments like flutes, ehru and percussions.
The artist also co-wrote and co-produced the song “Le train de Monbijou” on which is also plays the clarinet and the saxophone. The song was composed for the soundtrack of Timo von Gunten’s short film “La femme et le TGV”, nominated at the 89th Academy Awards in the Best Live Action Short Film category, and starring Jane Birkin.
After a period of intense creation between autumn 2023 and spring 2025, Christian Bernard is now planning to focus on presenting concerts over the next year.
